Status for «Beste bane» etter 21 runder i Eliteserien og Toppserien

Kampen om tittelen «Beste bane» er for alvor i gang etter 21 spilte runder i både Eliteserien og Toppserien. Det er spillerne som stemmer frem vinneren, mens banemannskap og klubber følger spent med på racet – og legger ned et stort arbeid for å sikre gode forhold.

Slik gjennomføres undersøkelsen

Undersøkelsen gjøres av NISO i samarbeid med spillerne. Hver enkelt bane blir vurdert på en skala, og det er alltid bortelagets kaptein som gir sin score etter kamp. På denne måten får vi et mest mulig nøytralt bilde av spilleforholdene, sett med spillernes egne øyne.

Gress og kunstgress side om side

I årets konkurranse er det både gressbaner og kunstgressbaner som ligger helt i toppen. Flere anlegg har byttet underlag i løpet av sesongen, og erfaringene viser at dette både kan slå positivt og negativt ut. Et gjennomgående tema er at banene, uavhengig av type dekke, ikke alltid får tid til å «sette seg» skikkelig. Dette påvirker spillets flyt og kan gi utfordringer vi ønsker å unngå.

Utfordringer med spilleforhold

Flere baner sliter fremdeles med utilstrekkelig vanning. Særlig på varme dager med mye sol opplever spillerne at kunstgressbanene blir altfor tørre, noe som både forringer spillekvaliteten og øker belastningen på utøverne.

I tillegg ser vi store forskjeller i innfyllet på banene. Det er ikke til å legge skjul på at kunstgressbanene som scorer best, bruker kostbare innfyll. Samtidig vet vi at det jobbes iherdig med å utvikle mer bærekraftige løsninger. Vår bekymring er at dersom kvaliteten på banene blir dårligere, kan konsekvensen ikke bare bli svakere spilleforhold, men også en økt helserisiko for spillerne.

Tidligere vinnere

Kåringen av «Beste bane» har etter hvert fått en sterk posisjon, og konkurransen lever fra år til år. De siste sesongene har vist at både gress og kunstgress kan hevde seg helt i toppen:

• 2024: Brann Stadion – gress (både menn og kvinner)

• 2023: Haugesund – gress (menn) og Åsane – kunstgress (kvinner)

• 2022: Lerkendal – gress (menn) og Intility Arena – kunstgress (kvinner)
  

Dette viser både variasjonen i underlag og at kvaliteten på banedriften er avgjørende, uansett dekke.

Spenning inn mot sesongslutt

Med de siste rundene foran oss, er vi spente på hvordan racet utvikler seg. Vi håper alle klubbene legger ned det arbeidet som trengs for å sikre best mulige spilleforhold. Til syvende og sist er det spillerne som merker forskjellen.

The race for the title "Best Pitch" is well underway after 21 rounds played in both Eliteserien and Toppserien. It is the players who vote to determine the winner, while grounds crews and clubs follow the race closely — putting in a great deal of work to ensure good playing conditions.

How the survey is conducted

The survey is carried out by NISO in cooperation with the players. Each pitch is assessed on a scale, and it is always the away team’s captain who gives their score after the match. This method gives us as neutral a picture as possible of the playing conditions, seen through the players’ own eyes.

Grass and artificial turf side by side

In this year’s competition, both natural grass pitches and artificial turf pitches are among the top-ranked. Several venues have changed surface during the season, and experience shows that this can have both positive and negative effects. A recurring theme is that pitches, regardless of surface type, do not always get enough time to “settle” properly. This affects the flow of the game and can create challenges we want to avoid.

Challenges with playing conditions

Several pitches still struggle with insufficient watering. Especially on hot, sunny days players experience that artificial turf pitches become far too dry, which both reduces playing quality and increases strain on the athletes.

We also see big differences in the infill used on pitches. It is clear that the highest-scoring artificial turf pitches use expensive infill materials. At the same time, we know there is persistent work underway to develop more sustainable solutions. Our concern is that if pitch quality deteriorates, the consequence may not only be poorer playing conditions but also an increased health risk for players.

Past winners

The awarding of “Best Pitch” has gradually become well established, and the competition continues year after year. Recent seasons have shown that both grass and artificial turf can top the list:

2024: Brann Stadion – grass (both men and women)

2022: Lerkendal – grass (men) and Intility Arena – artificial turf (women)

This demonstrates both the variation in surfaces and that the quality of pitch management is crucial, regardless if the surface is natural or artificial.

With the final rounds ahead of us, we are excited to see how the race develops. We hope all clubs put in the work necessary to ensure the best possible playing conditions. Ultimately, it is the players who feel the difference.
